TOWER WIZARD - Scratching the Itch.io

Hubert Spala

Recently, I've been playing more incremental games. Just last week, I got hooked and completed the great little gem DIGSEUM in a single sitting. I am burning countless hours playing the early access of MICROCIVILIZATION, which I am awaiting the full release of to smack a review day one. It's hella fun. So when I went to my regular scrounge through itch.io to find something fun to burn a few hours in, TOWER WIZARD had an unnatural appeal, an eerie, ghostly hand that grabbed me and pulled me in.

It is a pretty classic incremental game, a clicker to the core where you can pretty much just leave the game for an hour or two and come back with some extra resources to spend. However, like any good game of this time, if you're not actively participating in decision-making of how to allocate your resources, the growth won't be as grand as you'd like. It's all about steady progression, unlocking new things, feeding them your income. Bit by bit the automation part will take over, and the spirits that govern the various bits and bobs will ease your clicking needs. But a good clicker knows never fully to divorce the player from the action.

UI might be pretty minimalistic, but it's very clear, explains things well, and sticks to the art style well.

For me, TOWER WIZARD shows that it knows this concept well. Sure, your druids, your academy, and your study will put out work at their own pace, but there are always options for what to upgrade next. And with just a few resource types at your disposal, it is up to your wise decisions to spend them well. It's hella addictive, I could not peel my eyes off the screen until I reached the final tower expansion, and the game, sadly, ends there.

Of course, it's a prototype, and the screenshots hopefully indicate that this little demo can grow into a bigger game, with many more ascensions to unlock. New resources, new structures, new goals to chase - a bigger number makes the brain happy. I must also add that the game has a pretty great style. It's pretty minimalistic, but quite soothing, and clear, with great little sounds aiding the play and two-tone colors of sharp pixel art making the experience rather soothing.

So if you are looking to burn a few hours with a fun game, if you're a fan of clicker and incremental games, TOWER WIZARD might be that little shot of fun your body needs. Check it out!
